July 29, 2000
Greetings Everyone,
Thanks to Christian friends like you,
during the past five years,
Books Without Borders has had over a half million copies of
What The Bible Teaches About Life After Death printed and
delivered to people in former Soviet Union countries. This
summer (2000) we were able to get 60,000 copies delivered
to the Russian military. Then in the cities of Pushino and Seplakov
our group of twelve delivered most of the remaining 25,000 copies to
orphans, drug-rehab patients, juvenile delinquent girls, elderly ladies, hospital
patients, guests in our hotel, people on the streets, firemen, and to
a large crowd at a Saturday flea market.
The next week Carl and I flew on to
Izhevsk, Russia, a city of 1,000,000, six hundred miles
east of Moscow, where God opened doors for us to teach
pastors and their wives who are going out to start new churches, and
to Christian school teachers. What a privilege! Then God gave exceedingly
above that which any of us thought or asked. Through missionaries
who had become friends with the English speaking faculty at Udmurt State
University, upon arrival I found that I would be teaching them and
several USU students. They extended this invitation and wanted to know how
we teach reading and writing in America. At Liberty University, I teach students
how to teach reading, writing, listening, and speaking across the curriculum.
What a delight it was to teach these Russian professors and students
and then give them a copy of What The Bible Teaches About Life After
Death, a New Testament, a small American flag, and a variety of other gifts
from Christian friends in America.
The faculty gifts to me were a
lovely bouquet of peonies and a beautiful picture made
from gemstones from the nearby Ural Mountains, mounted on
green marble. I don't believe they could have given a gift that I would
have liked more, since my granddaddy, my daddy, and several uncles mined
mica, kaolin, and feldspar from the wonderful western North Carolina Mountains.
Because all precious gems, except diamonds have been found in the
area where I grew up, and because I included one page in my book showing the
precious stones to be found in heaven, according to God's Word, this gift
will be a lifelong treasure.
Several faculty and students
came to hear my husband preach the next night. Two faculty
members invited us to their flat after church to discuss James Dobson's Life on
the Edge. Like so may other times our schedule didn't allow
us to answer questions, and further discuss God's Word like we would have
loved to do.
Yes, this was a wonderfully
memorable summer serving God in Russia, and we are already having people tell us
that they believe God wants them to go with us next
summer. Recently we have received over $5,000 to begin to help
pay for the one million copies of the book that have been requested for the
Russian military. Whatever amount is received this year, that is how many
books we will order. The books are now .25 per copy. Already one couple
has promised to give $10,000 if stock they own goes to $7.00 per share,
and $20,000 if it goes up to $11.00 per share.
We are available to serve God. Let's
just pray and see what His will is for you and for us
concerning this Russian book project.
Sincerely in His service,

Carolyn Diemer, Ed. D.
